A Beautiful Morning on the Caribbean
There's something about photographing maternity sessions by the ocean that I really love. The movement of the water, the changing light, the simplicity of the surroundings. You don't need much to create beautiful photographs when the environment is already doing so much of the work.
For this maternity photography session in Puerto Morelos, we met on a beautiful sunny morning along the Caribbean coast. The light was bright, the ocean was full of colour, and we kept the entire experience simple and relaxed.
She arrived wearing an elegant beach outfit that suited the setting beautifully. Nothing overly styled or complicated. Just a natural look that allowed the focus to remain on her and this particular chapter of her life.
Natural Maternity Photography With Gentle Direction
My approach to maternity photography is much the same as my approach to photographing people in general. I don't want you to feel like you're spending the entire session following instructions or trying to hold the perfect pose. Of course, I'll guide you. I'll help you find flattering light, suggest small adjustments and create compositions that photograph beautifully. But I also want you to feel comfortable moving naturally and being yourself. Throughout this session, we kept the posing minimal. A little direction when it was needed, with plenty of space for natural movement and expression. The result was a collection of photographs that felt elegant, relaxed and personal.
Taking the Maternity Session Into the Water
One of my favourite parts of this session was when she decided to head into the ocean. She had brought a bathing suit, which gave us the opportunity to create an entirely different collection of images without needing another location or a complicated outfit change. I love incorporating water into beach photography. It adds movement, texture and a completely different feeling to the photographs. Even though we were still in the same location, the images became something new.
If you're planning a beach maternity photoshoot in Puerto Morelos, bringing a second outfit or a bathing suit is a lovely option, especially if you're comfortable getting into the water. It's certainly not necessary, but it gives us another way to be creative.
A Relaxed 45 Minute Maternity Session
That's one of the things I love about these smaller, more intimate sessions. We don't need hours of photography, elaborate setups or dozens of poses to create a meaningful collection of images. We had enough time to explore different compositions, photograph her in two outfits and make use of the beautiful morning light. The experience was comfortable, relaxed and completely stress free. Whether you're visiting Puerto Morelos on vacation or living here in the Riviera Maya, a maternity photoshoot can be a simple and beautiful way to document your pregnancy. You don't need to know how to pose or have an entire creative vision planned before arriving. We can figure out those details together.
